In the Old Testament, the prophet Joel writes in Joel 2:28-32 wrote, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes”. Read Full Answer.

A short, impersonal response like this would not be the best medium to work through something as personal as this, and hence, we would suggest the person asking the question to approach someone from our church, a homegroup leader, a Deacon or perhaps and Elder to talk through the issues. READ FULL ANSWERThe Baptist pastor, Mark Dever is known to sometimes begin his talks to college campus ministries and their students by saying, “If you call yourself a Christian but you are not a member of the church you regularly attend, I worry that you might be going to hell”. He doesn’t do that for shock value, or to somehow add something to what Christ has done for us on the Cross. He does this to show how essential and non-negotiable a healthy local church is to the life of a Christian! Read Full Answer.
READ FULL ANSWERPain and suffering are a reality in this world today, but it was not what God intended from the beginning of time. God created the world good (Genesis 1-2). However, humans rebelled against God’s good and perfect rule, and as a result, God’s good creation became cursed. This is called ‘The Fall’. ‘The Fall’ is pervasive, it affects everything (Genesis 3:14-19) – the serpent is cursed, the woman is cursed, the man is cursed, the very environment is cursed. God’s perfect harmony is disrupted, and this disruption spoils humanity’s relationship with God, humanity’s relationship with creation, humanity’s relationship with one another, and even the harmony within a person’s own body. You could say that even our DNA has been affected by the fall. All disease and pain came about as a result of ‘The Fall’, ultimately. Read Full Answer.

Legalism is defined by the “Dictionary of Bible Themes” as “the belief that salvation demands or depends upon total obedience to the letter of the law. READ FULL ANSWERThe claim that Jesus turned water into wine is in fact accurate. This miracle, Jesus’ first, is recorded for us in John 2:1-12. However, to take that as full license to drink is another matter altogether. Other parts of Scripture prohibit drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18), and emphasize moderation (1 Timothy 3:8, 5:23), but do not prohibit the consumption of alcohol per se. In Christ, we are given liberty in our eating and drinking (Colossians 2:16-17), but we are told that everything should be done to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Read Full Answer.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” Read Full Answer.

READ FULL ANSWERThe fact that you’re asking this question is encouraging—you want to follow Jesus and grow closer to Him, even though that’s tough to do. Jesus said, “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh” (Luke 6:21, ESV). A hunger to know God more will draw you closer to Him. But we all know our hunger for God comes and goes. So what can you do to stay hungry and draw nearer to Him over time?
The bible tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that guides us to all knowledge of God. It is the Holy Spirit that enables us to get closer to God, once we have been made just by faith in Jesus Christ. The most important foundation is to ask God to draw you closer to Him. The power to get closer and closer to God comes from God Himself. From our perspective, there are a number of things you can discipline yourself to do.
First, I’d like to suggest that there are a few basics that you need to persevere no matter how you’re feeling toward God at any given season of life: reading the Bible, praying, worshipping God alone and with others, meeting with other believers for encouragement & accountability, obeying God by his power & grace, and confessing your sins when you don’t obey. The basics involve more than just showing up at the right places & times—a listening ear and open heart toward God and others is needed. Ask God to give you the desire and ability to be consistent in the basics of the faith, along with a listening ear and open heart.
My second suggestion is about perspective and expectations. Do you expect that following Jesus will be easy? Do you expect that you’ll always feel close to God? The Psalms of Ascents (Psalm 120 – 134) are songs of Jewish pilgrims headed up to worship God in Jerusalem—it wasn’t an easy journey, and there were dangers and disappointments along the way. We, too, are walking through life on a difficult, often uphill pilgrimage, and our ultimate destination is Jesus Christ. Ask God to give you strength & wisdom for the journey, realistic expectations about the ups and downs, and help you consistently focus on Jesus along the way. Read Full Answer.
READ FULL ANSWERThe Bible forbids excessive drinking leading to drunkenness and debauchery. This is sinful behaviour, which needs to stop. If this is the case of your husband, he needs to repent of his drunkenness, trust Jesus to forgive him of his sins, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, walk a life that is pleasing to God. At the root of this problem is the fact that your husband depends on something other than God in which to find satisfaction, joy and delight. Read Full Answer.
READ FULL ANSWERThere is nothing specific in the bible that bans hard alcohol or the hookah water pipe (also known as shisha). The same goes for other types of alcohol, smoking in general and many of the choices we make in life.
What the bible does talk about is sobriety, addiction, idolatry and self-control. These principles apply to all of life and are at the heart of godly behaviour and choices. The bible tells us in principle not to get drunk (Ephesians 5:18). 1 Corinthians 6:12 reminds us not to be addicted (“mastered”) to anything we do, or else we will be enslaved in our addiction and reject God (Luke 16:13). This also means that we do not frivolously engage in activates we know have the potential to “enslave” us. Read Full Answer.
READ FULL ANSWERSatan was created as Lucifer, an angelic being of the highest order, before he fell into sin (see Ezekiel 28:11-15). After he fell, he apparently still possessed great powers. In the book of Job, we find that he could cause fire to fall from the sky (Job 1:16), control the wind (Job 1:19) and even inflict boils on a person (Job 2:7). On top of this, he had authority on earth since it was delivered to him (Luke 4:6) presumably by Adam when he listened to the serpent’s lie in the garden of Eden. However, all these changed when Jesus came to earth, died on the cross and rose again. He regained the authority Adam lost to Satan (Matthew 28:18) and now gives us power over Satan and his demons (Mark 16:17). Read Full Answer.
