Why did God not simply create the Bible with his words all contained inside instead of having humans to document it?
Answer:
Not only has God created the Bible with ‘His words contained inside’, the Christian understanding of the inspiration of the Bible is that the words of the Bible are the very words of God Himself (2 Tim 3:16). These words have come to us via human authors, but that in no way diminishes the fact that these are God’s word. God inspired these men, and using their individual personalities, styles and experiences moved them to write and communicate exactly what He wanted them to communicate. Why did He do it this way? Well, perhaps the question to ask is, ‘How else would He do it?’ God, the transcendent eternal being, completely different and unlike us, outside of time and space, way beyond our cognition and understanding, in order for us to even begin understanding Him, He has to somehow come down to our level and speak our language. Whatever He has to say to us has to be ‘translated’ into human language – what better way to do that than to inspire human authors? Secondly, humans were made in the image of God to be His representatives to govern creation on His behalf. Through sin, that image is marred, but not lost – we continue to bear imperfectly that responsibility to govern as God’s representatives on earth. Would it be any wonder that when God wants to speak to His creation, He does so via human agents?
