If faith is the only thing we have to go on, how can I dispel anyone else’s faith in their god?
Answer:
As I look at this question, I assume it comes from a desire to want others of different faiths to believe in the Christian faith, and there out of a loving and God-fearing conscience. Firstly we would like to say that the bible does not ask us to condemn or belittle other faiths. The bible does ask us to live at peace with everyone, if possible (Romans 12:18), and to honour and obey worldy authorities (Romans 13:1-7).
Therefore, within our local context we are to share our faith clearly (Colossians 4:4) and in love (Ephesians 4:15) because faith in Jesus Christ comes about by hearing the message, the gospel – good news about Jesus (Romans 10:14-17).
As we share, pray that the Holy Spirit will bring revelation (John 16:14), conviction (John 16:8) and new birth (John 3:5-8). The act of changing a person’s heart does not lie within our power, as if by simply “trying harder” more would come to faith. God is the author of our faith (Hebrews 12:12). When we recognise correctly where the power to change the hearts of men comes from (God), we will not think that it is up to us to dispel others’ faiths.
