How can we trust the Bible? Isn’t it a book written by people and not by God?

Answer:

We trust the bible because it is the word of God and, as we read in Titus 1:2, God never lies. Titus 1:9 says that God’s word is trustworthy. 2 Timothy 3:15-17 tells us that all scripture is inspired by God and is able to lead us to salvation and equip us for every good work. God used men to put His holy word into writing, but the effects, intents and meanings of the words all belong to God.

Some may say such circular reasoning (the bible testifying that the bible is trustworthy) is invalid. However, all belief systems (even irreligious ones) rely on a foundation of circular reasoning (or similar logic). Even our courts allow a defendant to testify on his own behalf, so it is something we accept in our way of life. Indeed, the bible is a testimony of the life, work and lordship of Jesus and the supremacy, holiness and love of God from many different times, places and people.

As a compilation of 66 books from dozens of authors over some 3000 years, the bible carries an inerrant, unified, verifiable message across tens of thousands of portions and manuscripts dating as far back as the first century BC.
