Why does God give things to other people but not to me?
Answer:
There were 2 brothers in the book of Luke 12, and one of them was not satisfied with the inheritance that was given to his brother. He asked Jesus to tell his brother to divide up the inheritance with him. To which Jesus warned them to take care, and be on their guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of one’s possessions.
Jesus then drew their attention to the providence of God to His children’s needs, using the comparisons of ravens and lilies which neither sow nor reap, toil not spin for their food and clothing. The promise of God’s providence to His children everyday needs is emphasized and Jesus encouraged his disciples to not run after all those things, but to trust in God and be satisfied in Him.
God may not seem to be fair to us by not giving us the things that others have, but the whole point of life is not about having those things or gaining equality in that sense. The most important thing in life for us as sinners is to make peace with God and be reconciled back to Him. And this is only made possible by Christ dying on the cross for our sins. And through believing in Him, we are saved. That is the greatest gift we can have! The forgiveness is worth much more than the things that we are missing out in life.
So, I hope your life and your joy do not revolve around the things that the world is running after, but you will find your treasure in the person of Christ. May you be satisfied and strengthen everyday by the joy of your salvation:
And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also – Luke 12:22-34
