What would you say to someone who asks, “What must I do in order to believe?” I have presented the case for Christ to my friends to the ‘T’. Why don’t they still believe?

Answer:
The book of Romans tells us that people will not believe because they willingly ‘suppress the truth’ (Romans 1:18), do not desire to honour God (Romans 1:21), love the things in this world more than God i.e. what the Bible calls idolatry (Romans 1:23), and basically are happy with living in deceit rather than truth (Romans 1:25). In short, people will not believe because they love other things more than God. Elsewhere, the Bible also says that all of humanity has willing and actively rebelled against God (Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:11-12).
As Christians, our role is not to convert anyone. We simply don’t have the power to do that. Our goal is to share the good news of what Jesus has done on the cross as clearly and as accurately as possible (Romans 10:14-16), and to pray that God would work in the person’s heart. God must work in the persons heart to make them recognize their sinfulness (2 Corinthians 4:6), which will then lead them to repent and believe in Jesus. That is God’s work (2 Timothy 2:25), and we should faithfully share the gospel, and pray fervently for God’s work in people’s hearts.
