What we must do if we do not want go to church?

Answer:

The Scripture tell that no to forsake meeting together regularly with other believers to worship God. (Heb 10:25) Granted that there are exceptional cases to this rule (e.g. Elijah commanded by God to hide by a brook), it is not the norm for a believer. Certain aspects of Christian living cannot be carried out in obedience to God if we regularly fail to worship and serve with other believers.

If we do not want to go to church, we need to do several things:

1) repent of our disobedience before God – we often rebel against what God wants us to do. To have a right relatinoship with God, we have to repent of our disobedience.

2) find a church to go to and go to church – there is no such thing as a perfect church, or even a church that is perfect for us. Nonetheless, look for a church that has: sound doctrine, expository preaching, focus on the gospel message, converted and changed lives, passion for evangelism, people’s commitment to love, serve and relate to one another, right administration of the sacraments and discipline, godly leaders, and a focus on making disciples.

3) Identify and work through the issues we are facing that make us not want to go to church – is it laziness? Has someone hurt us? Are we afraid of being real before others? Are we afraid people will discover we are not as “good” as we pretend to be? There can be many reasons. We must put them before the throne of God’s grace and live as Jesus has called us to.
