Many people, myself included, are naturally inclined to sexual immorality. Like the homosexuality issue, there are many who say that sexual immorality is natural. God’s word, however, says that sexual immorality is sin.

There is an argument that the attraction to the same sex is natural and therefore it is acceptable. Those who claim this say that this is because it “feels natural” or because they are born that way or brought up that way. It is also not uncommon for them to say that the fact that some animals commit homosexual acts proves that homosexuality is God’s design.

To begin with, the bible says that God created everything Good, and made man male and female, with Romans 1 26 and 27 showing clearly that men were created to be naturally sexually attracted to women and vice versa. Romans 1 also says that it is because of sin and rebellion that people have departed from the ways God intended for them.

When Adam sinned, this natural sexual order and natural sexual orientation became corrupted – there is nothing left innocent in the world. What we imagine is “natural” in the world today could in fact be a corruption of the once natural order. We must not rely on observation or feeling to determine what is good and evil but only God’s word and testimony.

An appeal to animals is irrelevant because only humans are made in the image of God and are moral and rational beings; unlike animals (2 Peter 2:12). We must remember that Adam’s sin brought the curse of sin into the world and this has not only marred the nature of man, but the whole created order. Most importantly, there is no indicate in the bible that we should take our moral cues from animals – instead, we are to take our moral cues from God and Jesus Christ.

How we feel is also not relevant to the truth. Jeremiah 17:9 is one such verse that says that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Just because a person may feel attracted to someone of the same sex does not in anyway mean that a homosexual act is acceptable. Just because a person’s genes causes him more incline towards certain addictions (e.g. alcoholism or rage), or behaviour (such as theft) does not make it any less sinful. It is the sinful nature that needs to be put to death for this is the reason why the wrath of God is coming (Col 3:5-6).

Sin is sin because it transgresses God’s commandments. (1 John 3:4) A person struggling with homosexual tendencies need to realize that homosexuality is sin. A person struggling with lustful heterosexual thoughts must also acknowledge that those thoughts are sinful. Like all sinners, we need to acknowledge our sins, repent of our wicked ways, flee when we is faced with temptations and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ – in whom there is no longer any condemnation. (Rom 8:1)
