Is Christianity the only true religion?

Answer:

Yes. Jesus is the only way to God. John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Let us see who Jesus claimed to be.

Jesus claimed to be God, the creator of the universe. In the gospel according to John, it is written, “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3). Jesus is also the Son of God; one of the three persons in the Trinity – consisting of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 11:27. “All things have been handed over to Me by my Father: and no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” Here, we see that Jesus also makes a claim of a special Sonship with the Father. Being the Son of God does not imply in any way that Jesus is less than the Father in any of his attributes or power. It is more a function of role rather than degree of power. God consists of the Trinity — The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus also claimed to be the Alpha and Omega, the everlasting God who had no beginning or end. (Rev 1:17; 22:13). This title is only used of God. Jesus also claimed the divine title “I AM” (ergo eimi) for himself regularly in the gospel according to John (This is especially noticeable when read in the original Greek) – again, this is a title only used by God Himself and refers to the everlasting existence of God.

Yet another divine title used by Jesus to describe himself was “Son of Man”. This is one of the clearest claims to divinity. We read of the use of this title in a number of Old Testament passages. Note Daniel 7:13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.” Here, Jesus comes before the Ancient of Days (God the Father), and is given the very same dominion and rulership that only God himself can have. Jesus is God.

In John 1:1-3, we read about Jesus who is described as the divine word/logic/wisdom (Greek: logos), “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him was not anything made that was made.” This verse clearly identifies Jesus as God. It also states that God’s Word and Wisdom, is also and is eternally an attribute of God the Father. To further reinforce this point, let us consider this reference in the Old Testament on the wisdom of God:

Proverbs 8:22-30 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him…

Other similar passages include Psalms 58:10, 107:42 and Job 11:14. This personification of wisdom contains attributes that can only be made of God Himself (the Father); yet Wisdom is said to share these very same attributes while being distinct from the Father Himself. When Jesus is said to be the wisdom of God in John 1, it alludes to the divinity of Jesus. Other attributes that Jesus claimed for Himself that can only be attributed to God include his ability to forgive sins (Matthew 9:2; Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20, 7:48), cast people into hell, confer God’s kingdom to them; he is the judge of all creation, the one who reveals God’s truth to whoever he wills, and the one who send prophets to Israel (Matt 13:24). In conclusion, Jesus is God.

In conclusion, Jesus claimed to be God. He is the only way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6) And it is also Jesus who taught that he is the only way to God and only by believing in the gospel can anybody ever be saved.
