How does RHC see the Old Testament in relation to the Bible? That it is proof/points to the New Testament, Jesus, relevant in its own right, or not relevant since Jesus has come and done it all? If it’s relevant then doesn’t it need a lot more teaching on?
Answer:
We believe that the Old Testament points to Jesus (Luke 24:27, 44) as its fulfillment and also contains both positive and negative examples for us in terms of how to relate to God (1 Corinthians 10:6). When Paul talks about the ‘Scriptures’ in 2 Timothy 3:16, and how they are inspired by God, and profitable for the Christian, at that time, he was almost certainly referring to the Old Testament. Hence, at RHC, the Old Testament is very relevant and important. We have preached on the Old Testament before. In fact, Simon started this church with a series on the book of Habakkuk. We also plan to preach through Exodus at some point next year. Additionally, we will be launching Christian Education classes, where you can learn how to correctly handle the Old Testament, see it in the light of the entire Bible, and learn how to draw teaching from it.
