Do Witches really exist?
Answer:
Yes, witches do exist. The Scriptures tell us so.
“When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God, for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.” – Deut 18:9-14
The word translated as witches/sorcerer in the bible refers to anyone who cast spells, practice witchcraft and sorcery, or who charm objects. It is closely linked to other practices which the Lord finds abominable such as human sacrifices, fortune-tellers and divination, and mediums. They do exist. The bible speaks of Saul consulting a witch and this brought about judgment upon himself (1 Sam 28). In the New Testament, we read about a slave girl who was possessed by an evil spirit which enabled her to tell the future (Acts 16:16). The bible acknowledges these things are real and warns us not to practice these things for God abhor these practices and they are an abomination to him.
There are two sources of supernatural power in this world – God and satan. Witchcraft does not draw on God’s supernatural power.
